After spending 19 years in jail, Jean Valjean becomes an honest man with a new identity. Years later, when he is a factory owner and mayor of a small town, he is involved in the life of his poor worker Fantine and her sick daughter Cosette. While trying to help them, Jean has to reveal his identity to save an innocent man. After that, his former prison guard Javert pursues him and attempts to bring him back into jail. Meanwhile, Cosette falls in love with Marius, who is part of a revolutionary movement which is ready to strike…
