The world is overwhelmed when 12 unidentified flying objects arrive on earth and mankind realizes that it is not alone in this universe. The spaceships are spread all over the world but the extraterrestrial intelligence seems to be peaceful – still its strangeness makes communication impossible. Just one woman tries the impossible: the linguist Dr. Louise Banks is consulted by the military to set up a first contact. While worlds collide, conflicts among humans arise when certain countries refuse a peaceful handling of the situation. Arrival is nominated for 3 Oscars: Best film, best director, best adapted screenplay.
