Conors live can not be called happy. His mother is very sick, at school he is bullied by other boys, and his very strict grandmother grandmother makes his days even worse. Conor tries to escape into a fantasy world, because he refuses to realise his mothers illness. Furthermore, Conor has nightmares in which the old tree outside the window comes alive and forces him to face the truth.
