In the 1930s, young Bobby, raised in the Bronx, tries to start a career in Hollywood's movie business. He asks his uncle Phil, a film agent, for help but he refuses. Instead, Bobby falls hopelessly in love with his uncle's secratary Vonnie. Soon Bobby is overburdened with his unrequited love and also with problems of his brother Ben in New York, who has lots of trouble with the law.
