In the 28th century, Valerian and Laureline are human police agents on the space station Alpha, where numberless creatures from different planets live peacefully together and exchange their knowledge. They are sent on a mission to obtain a so-called converter, a rare animal with the ability to duplicate energy-containing pearls. During the mission, they are confronted with less developed humanoids, who also want to obtain the converter and eventually infiltrate station Alpha.
